Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque) Istanbul
The original name of mosque is Sultan Ahmet Mosque and it is still an active mosque. But it is known as Blue Mosque because of tiles and inner decoration. They used 21,000 tiles for inner decoration. The mosque has 260 windows and 6 minarets. It was constructed by Sedefkar Mehmed Aga between 1609-1616 during the Ottoman Sultan Ahmet I. There is a tomb of founder, a madrasah and a hospice near the mosque as well.
It is still an active mosque and open every day for prayers. Pray time changes according sunrise and sunset. That is why I can’t say certain time about visiting. It is closed during prayer hours. Please check prayer times before you go for a visit. It is closed only on Friday till 14.00.
Our female customers should carry a scarf to cover their head and wear suitable clothes for mosque visit. Your shorts and dresses should be below the knee and shoulders covered.
